24 May Sedation dental treatment: the perfect option for nervous patients
Sedation dental treatment is an excellent way for people who are afraid of the dentist to get the treatment they need. At Dental Beauty Islington in North London, we are sympathetic to the needs of nervous patients. Our principal dentist, Dr Ricky Adams, is Dental Phobia certified, and sedation dental treatment is just one of the options we offer to those who are anxious, nervous, or phobic about visiting the practice.
Fear of the dentist has many causes. Some people cite a bad experience during childhood as the root cause of their fear, while for others there are specific triggers – the sound of the drill, the sight of a needle, fear about what treatment may be needed and what it may entail, or worry that they will be judged because their teeth and gums are in less than perfect condition.
At our North London clinic, we will never judge you if your oral health is less than perfect, whether that’s been caused by fear or by any other reason. All we want to do is to help you to get any treatment you need, to restore you to full health, and to furnish you with coping strategies to enable you to maintain that health going forward.
Sedation dental treatment is just one of the options available to nervous patients at our North London practice. We also offer hypnotherapy from a fully qualified hypnotist. This option involves communicating with your subconscious mind and furnishing you with strategies to both get you through any urgent treatment and to help you maintain progress once treatment is complete.
Your hypnotist will also give you self-management strategies, and can help with problems such as a strong gag reflex, tooth grinding, and helping to stop smoking.
North London sedation dental options
At our North London clinic we find intravenous (IV) sedation to be the most effective sedation dental option. Unlike general anaesthetic, you will not be asleep, so will be able to cooperate with your dentist as needed. However, you will feel very peaceful and relaxed, and won’t experience any pain. You will need to bring a friend to take you home after treatment.
