A guide to sedation dental treatment for nervous patients

Sedation dental treatment is an excellent way to get back to oral health if you are nervous or phobic of visiting the dentist. At Dental Beauty Islington in North London our principal dentist, Dr Ricky Adams, is Dental Phobia certified, which means that he is recognised for his work with anxious and phobic patients.

nervous-dental-patientsOur North London clinic offers a number of options for nervous patients, of which sedation dental treatment is one of the most popular. It does not mean you will be unconscious as you will have been if you’ve had an operation under general anaesthetic at hospital. You will be awake, and able to cooperate with any instructions your dentist may give you, but you will be in a deep state of peace, largely unaware of your treatment and unlikely to remember much about it after your procedures are complete.

Other options at our North London dental practice include hypnotherapy, which can give you coping techniques for future appointments as well as helping you get the original problem treated. We have a fully-qualified and highly-experienced hypnotherapist at our North London clinic.

Some patients benefit from learning more about modern dentistry. Techniques and materials have improved a great deal in recent years, meaning that the vast majority of procedures are now pain-free. In addition, many people benefit from using in-chair entertainment – listening to your favourite radio show, music, or podcast, watching a film or documentary during longer procedures. Whatever your requirements, your dentist will work with you to find the perfect route back to oral health.

North London sedation dental treatment

There are two options for sedation dental treatment at our North London clinic. The first is oral sedation, which is a milder form of sedation and is usually taken in tablet form on the morning before your procedure.

The second option is IV sedation, which is stronger and delivered directly into your blood stream via a small needle.

Our North London clinic will provide you with full aftercare instructions for sedation dental treatment. A friend will need to come with you to take you home and look after you until the sedatives wear off.
